I foresee a whole generation of sequels to this after the success of this movie. Hopefully the future entries will be a bit more bold.

Given it's Illumination (and having looked at the Despicable Me, Sing, and Secret Life of Pets sequels) I'm not holding out a ton of hope on depth or boldness, but definitely can see them doing some sequels. To be entirely honest, Illumination was the most brand-safe move Nintendo could've made. They're gonna keep any movies relevant to what kids are enjoying *right now* and not put out anything that's gonna offend or tarnish the brand.

And that's probably the best thing for them as far as getting things started. I'm hopeful this will result in other studios perhaps getting access to other Nintendo IP down the road, which is where maybe we could get a solid Metroid, Zelda, or Starfox entry with some "oomph" while Illumination makes bank on Mario Bros, Kirby, and who knows, maybe even Pikmin! (Olimar voiced by Chris Pine or something) ;)
