Whoops - we took two months off!
With nearly everything that we do here at Checkpoint, it all serves as one huge experiment. If you’re ingrained with any of my personal instructions or habits, I follow a fairly strict 12-week cycle on things. I’m willing to try just about anything for 12 weeks at a time.
With our revamp at the beginning of 2023, we were in that exact place with To The Point.
We had wrapped up the newsletter handcrafted by myself every week. We had evolved into a community-driven content house that was To The Point 2.0.
And it was fun.
And we made some good content.
And then we got busy.
And now… here we are.
At our most zealous, I had aspirations for To The Point to create three articles per week - one rotating piece, one opinion piece, and one review of a current video game, movie, or popular media.
At a bare minimum, I wanted To The Point to be something I didn’t have to manage - between our myriad of activities at Checkpoint, I wasn’t sure I could responsibly handle one more thing.
So, now the ultimate question remains: where do we go from here?
A Vision for Tomorrow
The troublesome part of content creation is the level of deference that we are behooved to offer to the Almighty Algorithm™.
The most responsible use of this space to create the largest viable audience would be the consistent creation schedule of at least one post per week.
However, there is a gift that we’ve been given over the course of three full years of this newsletter: you.
To The Point has a built-in list of connections and interested parties that have accrued since its inception. Many of you have boldly made the leap from email to Substack with us. Some of you even found us here in the first place.
Given that we have you, I am going to pivot our focus from quantity to quality.
Checkpoint has never been about making it ‘famous’ or even about going ‘viral’ as a means of success. Instead, our focus has been steady and intentional relationship-building. I believe that To The Point should mirror that responsibly.
With this in mind, I am going to anticipate yet another transition point for To The Point (on a 12-week cycle, of course).
Every month, I want To The Point to, in some way, provide our readers with the following information:
Events
Stories
Opportunities
Need-to-know Info
No fluff pieces (Hence, To The Point)
How will this information be delivered? I’m not sure yet.
Will we maintain the theme structure we had earlier? I don’t think so.
Should I expect a weekly email push? Maybe, but no promises.
Other questions?
Ask away in the comments here and I will do my best to answer them.
I am hopeful that the connections and by-line writers we have accrued will continue to lean into their baptism and create for the feed. But the plan above is what I know that I will be able to provide as we continue to discern the best way to move forward.
I want to personally thank you for your patience and your willingness to evolve with us here at Checkpoint Church. Your support means the world. We simply couldn’t exist without you.
With that in mind, if you have a spare three minutes, answer this one-question survey to let us know what kind of article you would care about that Checkpoint could bring you via To The Point.
We want to create the kind of content that you value - help us envision how to best serve you.
With that and until next time,
God loves you.
We love you.
You matter.
BUH-BYE!
